Homeless Ministry

When people are ignored, their self esteem becomes lower and lower until, over time, they believe they have no value and accept that living on the streets is as good as it gets. Love In Action shows the homeless there is a God in Heaven who loves them and there are people who care about them. When they experience that love, a spark of hope shines in their eyes, and that's the beginning of their new journey back to a productive life with Jesus Christ.

When Team LIA shows the homeless love and compassion by simply sitting down to listen to them and talking with them, the homeless realize they do matter. They discover, sometimes for the first time in their lives, someone really does care about them. They see, hear and experience the love of Jesus Christ in action. We have seen many of the homeless come off the streets in Dothan and other cities in the U.S., who are now living productive lives and still worshiping and serving Jesus.

Go to them

We believe in going and meeting the homeless where they are. That's how Jesus comes to all of us. He meets us where we are. How will the homeless know we love and care for them if we don't go to them? We spend time listening to them.

LIA started in the heart of LIA President Ken Tuck when a homeless man in Atlanta named Nathaniel said, "Thank you for not ignoring me." Nobody listens to the homeless. Most people are afraid of them. By listening to the homeless, we are letting them know their voices matter. Then they will listen to us as we tell them about Jesus, and how they can receive help from us, churches and other organizations. It's awesome seeing that spark of hope ignite in their eyes.

Matthew 25:35-40

"'For I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed Me, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me.’ Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you did it to Me.'"
